In-depth case studies explored the perspectives of people living with dementia, their family carer and care staff on using life story work in health and social care contexts. Life story work was found to enhance person and relationship-centred care through improved relationships, understanding the individual and pride in life achievements. "This collaborative participatory action research (PAR) inquiry explored with Guyanese women their experiences of living with a long term condition. The women were given a voice to tell their stories and felt empowered to have a say about the health services received which was communicated to their health care professionals. The SMI Health Improvement Profile [HIP] targets physical wellbeing in SMI through the role of the mental health nurse. An exploration of male caregivers' experience of caring for a partner with Alzheimer's dementia and the factors that encourage or inhibit decisions to access support services. This study indicates that health and social care staff should respond to the needs of men through improved engagement and involvement and will be of interest to those working with caregivers and people with dementia.
